Neko Health Opens in Birmingham

Expanding Access to Breakthrough Preventive Health Scans to the West Midlands.

Health & Wellness

With extraordinary demand for preventive health checks in the UK, Neko Health opens its first Health Centre in Birmingham—accelerating its mission to shift healthcare from reactive treatment to prevention and early detection.

  • Neko Health continues to see strong global demand, delivering six times more scans in 2025 than in 2024, with global signups now exceeding 300,000 people
  • The new Birmingham Health Centre will have the capacity to deliver up to 25,000
  • Body Scans annually, helping make preventive healthcare more accessible across the West Midlands
  • Neko Health’s first Birmingham Health Centre is now open at 10 Livery Street, just
    minutes from Snow Hill Station

Birmingham, UK – January 28th, 2026

Neko Health, the preventive healthcare technology company co-founded by Hjalmar Nilsonne and Daniel Ek, continues its UK momentum with the opening of its first Health Centre in the West Midlands, officially launching today in Birmingham. Building on a period of rapid national growth, the company is now widening access to preventive healthcare beyond major capitals and has delivered six times more scans in 2025 than in 2024, with global signups now exceeding 300,000 people.

The Birmingham Health Centre opens just three months after Manchester and marks another important step in Neko Health’s regional rollout. Conveniently located at 10 Livery Street, steps from Snow Hill Station, the new location is designed to be easily accessible for people across the city and surrounding areas. At full capacity, it will be able to deliver up to 25,000 full-body scans per year.

At the heart of Neko’s offering is the Neko Body Scan. It is a 60 minute, comprehensive, non-invasive and radiation free health assessment that captures millions of health data points and is priced at £299. Using proprietary sensors alongside blood analysis, the scan assesses skin health including moles and marks, blood sugar levels to identify pre-diabetes risk, blood abnormalities, and risk factors linked to metabolic syndrome, stroke and heart attack. Results are delivered on site within minutes and discussed during an in-person consultation with a medical professional, providing members with personalised and actionable health findings.

The entire experience is completed in under an hour, and nearly 80% of members choose to rebook and prepay for their next scan the following year.

Hjalmar Nilsonne, CEO and Co-Founder of Neko Health, said:

“At Neko, we’re building a completely new healthcare experience — one that puts prevention first. We’ve been blown away by the response across the UK, and especially in Birmingham, where thousands of people have already joined our waitlist. That’s why I'm thrilled that our first new location opening in 2026 will be in this great city.

Dr Nikita Kanani, Global Medical Director at Neko Health, said:

“In clinical practice, we see the consequences of late diagnosis every day. The ability to assess metabolic, cardiovascular, and dermatological risks in a single, non-invasive visit represents an important step forward in preventive healthcare. What makes the Neko Body Scan unique is that we bring multiple assessments together in one streamlined pathway, giving members a clearer picture of their health earlier and allowing clinicians to intervene sooner when needed.

Neko Health Facts:

In its second year of operation in Stockholm in 2024, the data showed the following findings:

  • Of these, 81.3 % had no health issues, and Neko Health helped them establish a baseline and learn how to optimize and maintain good health
  • However, 18.7% required medical treatment. Among them, 1.2% received potentially life-saving care for severe conditions such as cardiovascular disease, serious metabolic disorders, and skin cancer. The age range of those receiving life-saving treatment was 28 to 81 years. Notably, 73% were men and 27% were women
  • 3 in 4 returning members with prior severe and life-threatening conditions were in good health or under control

Neko Health is registered with the CQC (Care Quality Commission), ensuring the centres meet the national standards for healthcare quality and safety.

Vieni Confirms Opening Date and Reservations Are Live

The new independent restaurant is set to open in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter

Events

Vieni, meaning “come in” will open at The Goodsyard on Pitsford Street, on Saturday 7 February, becoming the first hospitality venue to welcome guests into the landmark new development. Bookings are live at www.vieni.co.uk

Founded by Angelina Adamo and led by Charlotte Carter, Vieni occupies a 1,485 sq ft space with 40 covers and brings together a shared passion for hospitality and over a decade of industry experience.

The menu at Vieni is a personal reflection of Angelina’s heritage, inspired by everything her Nonna ever taught her. Fresh, bright and full of life, the dishes are designed to transport diners straight to Agrigento, Sicily. Mornings begin with coffee brewed in traditional moka pots, served alongside brioche and sharp lemon granita, while generous, unfussy plates such as whole sea bass, chargrilled beef ribs feature later on. There are nods to Sicilian street food throughout, with arancini, cannoli, and, for dessert, Angelina's father's Giovanni’s tiramisu soaked generously in Marsala.

Spritzes and Italian liqueurs feature throughout the drinks list, with indulgent affogatos also on offer.

Vieni’s design is bold, feminine and inviting, created to feel like stepping into Nonna’s house. An open kitchen sits at the heart of the space, alongside bespoke Sicilian-inspired wallpaper, handmade plates by Moulded by Sarah Jane, a statement disco ball from Disco Heads, a Bertha charcoal oven, and a striking Ferrari-red coffee machine.

Chef-founder Angelina Adamo has spent more than ten years working across Michelin-starred restaurants, hotels and kitchens of every scale. She is also the founder of Tutto Apposto, which has grown from intimate private dining into a successful events and hospitality business, now operating the Circle Lounge at Birmingham Hippodrome. Vieni marks her first bricks-and-mortar restaurant.

“When I first viewed the site, sunlight flooded the space and I just knew,” says Angelina. “My very first thought was how perfectly a disco ball would catch the light! Vieni allows me to bring my Nonna’s cooking into a restaurant setting for the first time and seeing that vision realised in my first permanent space is incredibly special. I can't wait to showcase that Sicilian food isn't just pizza and pasta, it's so much more!"

Charlotte Carter, restaurant manager, is a respected leader in hospitality and a passionate advocate for women in the industry. With a deep understanding of operations, people and guest experience, she has been instrumental in shaping Vieni from the earliest concept stages through to opening.

“We’ve been sketching ideas on napkins from the very beginning, menus, colours, the kind of team and atmosphere we wanted to create,” says Charlotte. “Vieni is about warmth, generosity and making people feel instantly at home. We’re so proud to be the flagship hospitality opening in The Goodsyard, it's so exciting to finally open the doors.”

Reservations are now live, bookable at : www.vieni.co.uk

Birmingham Light Festival 2026

Birmingham Light Festival will return in February, shining a light on the very best local artists and performers

Events

With just two weeks to go until Birmingham Light Festival returns (12-15th February), more details have been revealed on the programme alongside the Birmingham creatives involved, with even more opportunities for local people to be a part of this winter’s most magical event.

Setting the sky alight at Bullring, FORGED will feature performances from local spoken word artist, Amerah Saleh and Insurgent, a progressive metal band from the city. Performing against the backdrop of a giant flaming organ, these artists will be bringing a powerful contemporary voice to this year’s festival.

Brummies still have time to be at the heart of the festival, as Birmingham-born artist Anna West and Davi Callanan (idontloveyouanymore) bring their The Matter of the Heart project to Brindleyplace. It’s the last chance for local people to apply to be one of the live heartbeats featured as part of The Heartbeat of Brindleyplace. Those with a special story to tell only have until 1st February to apply to be part of the installation, which will be based in Oozells Square. Applications can be made via the Birmingham Light Festival website.

The programme of artworks also features Birmingham talent. Artist Jack Quddus (NeonCow) will be spreading the love on Lower Temple Street with My Heart Belongs in Birmingham and mural artist Richard O’Gorman will be unveiling this year’s legacy piece, Where the Trees Begin, in Edgbaston Village.

Birmingham Light Festival has also added a brand-new event to the programme, with support from Birmingham City University (BCU) as the festival’s first ever Connectivity Partner. Love on the Line will invite festivalgoers to Birmingham New Street, during the festival, to write a love letter to the city. These heartfelt declarations will be on proud display in light, on the station concourse throughout the festival.

Outside Birmingham New Street, Reunion will be the perfect greeting for those arriving into the city by train, inviting them to share in connection underneath the luminous colourful arches. Visitors will also be able to experience pop-up musical performances from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire students, all of which will be inspired by human connection.

The installations create a perfect path across the city, with visitors encouraged to use the Birmingham Light Festival map to explore on foot. Maps are available to download online, or can be picked up from the Festival Information Point at Bullring. For those that would prefer to explore with company, dog walks, group runs and walking tours are also available as part of the Festival events programme.

Festivalgoers heading into the city by tram, or looking to rest their legs between installations, can enjoy an exclusive travel offer thanks to West Midlands Metro. Visitors can get up to 15% off day tickets in Zones 1–4 and Zone 1 only, covering the full route from Edgbaston Village to Wolverhampton. To claim the discount, visitors can download the MyMetro app from the Google Play or Apple App Store and visit the Birmingham Light Festival website to access the code.

An Ode to Indulgence

The Most Luxurious Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day

SWEALTHY Loves

VALENTINE’S DAY, AT ITS MOST REFINED, IS NOT ABOUT GRAND GESTURES PERFORMED FOR AN AUDIENCE, BUT ABOUT INTENTIONAL INDULGENCE SHARED BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE WHO APPRECIATE BEAUTY, CRAFT, AND EXPERIENCE. LUXURY, AFTER ALL, IS NOT EXCESS FOR ITS OWN SAKE, IT IS THE PRIVILEGE OF CHOOSING THE EXCEPTIONAL. THIS VALENTINE’S DAY, THE MOST MEMORABLE CELEBRATIONS ARE THOSE THAT TRANSFORM TIME TOGETHER INTO SOMETHING EXQUISITELY RARE.

Begin with travel that feels effortless yet deeply considered. A private villa perched above the Amalfi Coast, a chalet in St. Moritz accessible by chauffeured transfer, or a discreet riad hidden behind unmarked doors in Marrakech offers more than scenery; it offers privacy. In these settings, mor nings unfold slowly, guided by sunlight, impeccable service, and the absence of schedules. For couples who value discretion, a bespoke itinerary curated by a personal travel designer ensures every moment feels organic rather than orchestrated.

Dining, too, becomes an intimate art form when elevated beyond the reservation. Consider a private chef preparing a tasting menu in your suite, each course inspired by shared memories or favourite destinations. Alternatively, after-hours access to a Michelin-starred kitchen, where the chef cooks solely for you - creates an experience that is both theatrical and deeply personal. Wine pairings drawn from a sommelier’s private cellar, or a vertical tasting of a beloved vintage, transform dinner into dialogue.

For those who equate luxury with wellness, Valentine’s Day offers an opportunity to indulge together in restoration. Book a couple’s spa ritual that spans an entire after noon, complete with mineral baths, customised aromatherapy, and post-treatment Champagne. Even more decadent is a wellness retreat that replaces noise with silence: guided meditation at sunrise, tailored bodywork and nutrient-rich cuisine designed to leave you both radiant long after the day has passed.

Art and culture provide another avenue for refined romance. Private gallery viewings, museum tours led by curators, or a candlelit per formance by a string quartet in an architecturally significant space elevate Valentine’s Day beyond cliché. These experiences invite connection through shared curiosity and intellectual pleasure, an often-overlooked form of intimacy.

Above all, true luxury lies in exclusivity that feels natural rather than contrived. It is the handwritten note waiting on fine stationery, the perfectly timed surprise that reveals an intimate understanding of one another, the quiet confidence of knowing that nothing has been left to chance. Even moments of stillness, lingering over breakfast served on porcelain warmed just enough, or watching dusk fall from a terrace wrapped in cashmere become indulgent when they are unhurried.

For couples who treasure legacy, Valentine’s Day can also be a moment to invest in the future. A private viewing of a landmark property, a consultation with an art advisor to acquire a meaningful piece, or a tailored experience designed to mark a shared milestone elevates the day from celebration to significance. These gestures speak not only to romance, but to vision.

Finally, consider the luxury of the bespoke. Commission a jeweller to design a piece that tells your story, or arrange for a renowned per fumer to create a shared scent, blended exclusively for the two of you. These are not gifts meant to impress, but to endure.

In the end, the most luxurious Valentine’s Day is not defined by price or spectacle, but by intention and intrigue. It is about choosing experiences that reflect discernment, emotional intelligence, and a deep appreciation for life well lived, together.

To complete the experience and add a touch of dream-worthy indulgence, we turned to our friends at Harvey Nichols, who shared their curated recommendations for this Valentine’s Day.

Beyond the Bard

The contemporary charm of Stratford-upon-Avon

Events

Yes, timber-framed houses still lean gently towards one another, and the River Avon continues its steady course through the centre of town, but what makes the town so compelling is just how comfortably it exists in the present. History is part of daily life here rather than something set apart; it’s woven into the fabric of modern cafés, independent shops, riverside leisure, and evenings at the theatre.

This balance is especially noticeable each spring during Shakespeare Week, an annual national celebration that will next take place from 23–29 March 2026. Across the UK, this initiative encourages schools and families to explore Shakespeare through performance and creativity. Throughout Stratford-upon-Avon, this feels less like a standalone event and more like a natural extension of the town’s cultural life. Workshops, talks, and trails slot easily into everyday routines, adding a vibrant buzz without disrupting the steady rhythm of the town.

A walk through the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon makes this abundantly clear.  Historic façades line the streets, but behind them are modern spaces that feel current and relaxed. A Tudor frontage might lead to a café serving carefully sourced coffee and seasonal pastries, but inside exposed beams sit comfortably alongside contemporary furniture, laptops, and conversations about theatre bookings or weekend plans. The past is visible everywhere, but it never dominates. Instead, it adds character and continuity, grounding modern life rather than slowing it down.

Life Along the Avon

The River Avon plays a central role in shaping the daily pace. Early mornings are calm and purposeful, with rowers gliding across the water and joggers moving along the towpath. As the day unfolds, the river becomes more social. Friends meet on benches overlooking the water, families spread out picnic blankets, and punts drift downstream, hired from Avon Boating (www.avon-boating.co.uk). Life along the river feels unhurried, offering space to stop, talk, and linger.

Riverside pub gardens are part of this rhythm. On warmer days, tables fill with a mix of locals and visitors, conversations stretching well into the afternoon. Stratford-upon-Avon is a popular destination, but it absorbs visitors without losing its sense of normality. Quieter streets, familiar faces, and everyday routines remain intact, allowing local life to continue alongside tourism with ease.

The Town’s Creative Pulse

The town’s cultural centre of gravity is the renowned theatre company, the Royal Shakespeare Company (www.rsc.org.uk). On performance evenings, the atmosphere shifts slightly. Restaurants become busier earlier, pavements fill with people heading towards the theatres, and the town feels quietly animated.

However, the RSC’s influence extends far beyond the stage. Alongside Shakespeare’s plays are new productions, modern interpretations, and community-led projects that keep the programme fresh and relevant. Education and outreach work connect the theatres to local schools and groups, reinforcing the idea that culture within Stratford-upon-Avon is open and shared.

Away from the theatres, independent businesses help define the town’s modern character. Monsoon Estates Coffee Co. (www.monsoonestates.co.uk) is known for its carefully roasted beans and loyal following. Bensons House of Tea (www.bensonsstore.co.uk) offers a wide range of blends that feel both traditional and contemporary. Gem Pantry (www.thegempantry.co.uk) specialises in elegant, understated jewellery, while Hobsons (www.hobsonsantiques.co.uk) mixes antiques with modern design in a way that feels current rather than nostalgic.

Markets add to this sense of everyday vitality. The weekly Rother Street Market (www.stratford.gov.uk/markets) supplies fresh produce, flowers, and artisan food, while the Waterside Upmarket (www.stratforduponavonbid.co.uk/markets) focuses on crafts, design, and independent makers. These markets are as much about meeting people as they are about shopping, creating regular moments of connection at the heart of town life.

Town and Country Balance

Another strength of Stratford-upon-Avon is how quickly town life gives way to countryside. Within a short walk or cycle, historic streets open out into fields, lanes, and footpaths. The Warwickshire countryside and the northern edge of the Cotswolds are close enough to make rural walks, cycling routes, and pub lunches part of everyday life rather than special occasions. This easy access to green space adds to its appeal, particularly for those looking to balance cultural life with time outdoors.

Community is a defining feature of the town. Schools are well regarded and closely linked to neighbourhood life. Parks host sports clubs, informal gatherings, and seasonal events that feel low-key and inclusive. Shakespeare Week, river festivals, and winter lights mark the year, but the strongest sense of belonging comes from daily interactions: familiar faces in cafés, regular walks along the river, and shared routines that give the town its shape.

For those considering a move, Stratford-upon-Avon offers a quality of life that seems increasingly difficult to find elsewhere. The town is walkable, well-serviced, and socially connected without feeling closed or insular. Life here can be busy or quiet, cultural or outdoor-focused, often within the same day.

Shakespeare’s presence is, of course, ever-present without completely dominating the town. During Shakespeare Week his legacy becomes a starting point for creativity rather than a fixed point of reference, encouraging participation and curiosity, and reflecting a town that values living culture over static heritage.

Whether strolling by the river, browsing independent boutiques, or joining the creative buzz of Shakespeare Week, there’s a sense that every corner of Stratford-upon-Avon holds a story, and every day is an invitation to be part of it. History and modern life flow together effortlessly, creating a lifestyle that feels alive, elegant, and unmistakably welcoming.

Beyond the artworks, Edgbaston’s programme brings together creativity, wellbeing and indulgence. On Friday 13th February, the Edgbaston Night Market, in association with Birmingham Artisan Markets, invites visitors to explore independent makers and designers along Greenfield Crescent, offering a relaxed way to move between installations.

Evenings from 12th to 15th February are defined by candlelight and considered hospitality. Loki Wine hosts intimate candlelit tastings throughout the festival, creating a warm, romantic counterpoint to the illuminated streets outside. Redefining Luxury - Virgin Galactic & The Ultimate Perspective

From the quiet of the new mexico desert to the edge of space, a handful of travellers experience a journey that blends engineering, elegance, and a view of the earth few will ever see.

Events

Instead of a countdown, there is a peaceful calm. A desert morning at Spaceport America in New Mexico, the air is still, the light sharp. On the tarmac sits a gleaming twin-fuselage aircraft, the VMS Eve, named after founder, Richard Branson’s mother.

Suspended beneath its central wing, the smaller white shape of VSS Unity waits for flight. It looks more like sculpture than a machine, its mirrored windows catching the sunlight, its smooth hull marked simply with the words Virgin Galactic. For a handful of travellers inside, they will leave Earth behind and see it from above the edge of space.

Richard Branson’s ambitions have always stretched beyond the ordinary. From music, train travel, airlines and ocean exploration, his ventures have pushed boundaries, but none are as audacious or as transformative as his foray into space tourism. With Virgin Galactic, he has sought to make space travel accessible, offering a journey that combines technical excellence, luxury service and an unparalleled perspective on our planet. Based at Spaceport America in New Mexico, the gateway to the edge of space, private travellers can board the sleek spacecraft VSS Unity and leave Earth in a way that few humans ever will.

Virgin Galactic has spent nearly two decades building towards this point. Founded by Branson in 2004, the company was borne out of a simple but ambitious goal: to open space to private citizens. After years of testing, setbacks and redesigns, commercial service began in 2023. Since then, a select group of paying passengers has joined company staff and researchers on flights that rise more than 80 kilometres above the Earth, crossing the United States’ definition of space and offering a few minutes of weightlessness before gliding back to land.

PREPARING TO LEAVE EARTH

The journey is meticulously choreographed. Passengers arrive several days in advance for what Virgin calls its Astronaut Preparation Programme: an immersion that combines physical readiness, a technical briefing and a mental focus. They tour the spacecraft, practice moving in microgravity and learn how to steady themselves during phases of high gravity. They meet their pilots, often veterans of the test-flight programme, and rehearse communication protocols. Each traveller is fitted for a tailored Under Armour flight suit, designed to manage body temperature and enable freedom of movement in weightlessness. Evenings are spent with the small flight team in the spaceport’s lounge areas designed to echo the surrounding desert landscape. Meals are shared, questions answered and nerves eased.

REDEFINING LUXURY

VIRGIN GALACTIC

& THE ULTIMATE PERSPECTIVE

“It’s a process that builds anticipation in a measured way,” explains Beth Moses, Virgin Galactic’s chief astronaut instructor and one of the first to experience the flight. “You get to know the crew, the systems, the procedures. By the time you walk out to the spacecraft, you’re ready both physically and emotionally.”

Image: Virgin Galactic Press Center

THE CLIMB TO THE EDGE

The VSS Unity itself is a hybrid of spacecraft and aircraft, capable of gliding to a runway landing yet to be built to endure the stresses of rocket flight. Each mission begins with Unity attached to Eve, which carries it to around 50,000 feet. The separation is smooth, almost unremarkable, until the rocket motor ignites. In a few seconds, the quiet is replaced by a rising thrust that pushes everyone firmly back into their seats. The ship climbs steeply, accelerating to three times the speed of sound. Through the windows the blue fades to indigo, then black.

Then, suddenly, silence again. The engine cuts off, the gravity forces vanish, and everything floats. Harnesses release and the cabin becomes a slow-motion zone. Passengers push gently from walls and seats, drifting in zero gravity, turning toward the windows to look down at home. From more than 80 kilometres up, the Earth curves visibly, a luminous arc edged by a thin blue line where atmosphere reduces to a fragile shimmer. “The moment you detach from the mothership and feel yourself in zero gravity, looking down at the planet, it’s unlike anything else in life,” says Moses. “You see how delicate everything is. You feel simultaneously small and connected.”

Branson himself, who flew aboard Unity’s first full-crew flight in 2021, described it as

“a moment to see the Earth as a whole, fragile and beautiful, and to feel our connection to it.”

He has often said that the true purpose of Virgin Galactic is not simply to offer a thrill but to change the way people think about the planet.

“Space offers clarity. It reminds you that Earth is our shared home, and that we are all connected.”

SILENCE AND RETURN

Inside the cabin, everything has been built to heighten that moment. Panoramic windows curve around both sides and the ceiling is designed to frame the view regardless of where a passenger floats. The structure, white, soft grey, polished metal portrays a calmness. The seats recline automatically as the ship re-enters the atmosphere, discreet lighting shifts to match each phase of flight. It feels less like a vehicle and more like a meditation chamber built for speed.

The descent, like the ascent, is choreographed with precision. As Unity re-enters the upper atmosphere, its wings pivot upwards into what engineers call “feather mode,” increasing drag and stability. The craft then transitions back into glider configuration for the final approach, touching down on the same runway it left. The entire journey, from take-off beneath the mothership to landing, lasts around ninety minutes. For passengers, though, it feels suspended outside of time.

A NEW KIND OF TRAVELLER

The price of the Galactica experience is $600,000, or roughly £465,000. It includes the pre-flight training, accommodation, hospitality and post-flight debriefing, as well as membership in the company’s Future Astronaut community, an ongoing network of those who have flown (or are preparing to). Virgin Galactic frames this as the birth of a new kind of travel, a blending of engineering, exploration and emotion. “Flying to space is not just a thrill,” says Branson. “It’s about creating a moment that stays with you for the rest of your life.”

Those moments are already changing the people who experience them. Passengers consistently describe a shift in perspective: the so-called overview effect, first noted by astronauts decades ago, where viewing Earth from space provokes a deep sense of unity and responsibility. One recent traveller commented that it was the silence which struck her the most: “You expect fireworks and adrenaline. What you get is calm. You look down and it’s so peaceful, so complete. It’s impossible not to think differently about everything after that.”

THE NEXT HORIZON

Virgin Galactic’s next generation of spacecraft, the Delta Class, is already in development and expected to begin service in 2026. These vehicles will carry six passengers per flight and enable weekly sessions of missions, expanding access while preserving exclusivity. Built using lessons learned from Unity’s test programme, they are designed for rapid turnaround, capable of flying, landing and being prepared again within days. The company’s long-term plan includes additional spaceports, including potential sites outside the United States, as Branson describes “a global space line for Earth.”

For all the innovation, Virgin Galactic has always framed its work in emotional rather than purely technical terms. The tone at Spaceport America is closer to a private retreat than a launch complex. The architecture, all glass and desert hues, merges with the landscape. Visitors pass through galleries that trace the history of flight and exploration before entering the preparation areas. Every element from sound, lighting, to pacing, is designed to build a sense of ritual.

That focus on human experience differentiates Virgin Galactic from its competitors. Where other companies talk about payload capacity and orbital range, Virgin speaks of perspective and connection. The result is a form of travel that sits somewhere between science and art, reflective even. In an era where luxury often means isolation, this experience offers the opposite: a direct, visceral awareness of belonging to a larger whole.

Image: Virgin Galactic Press Center

THE VIEW THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

When the flight ends, passengers gather once more with their crew for debriefing and celebration. The suits are removed, the adrenaline fades, but the sense of quiet wonder remains. Each traveller is presented with an album of photographs taken from inside and outside the cabin, though the most powerful image is the one that stays in their memory: that curve of Earth, luminous against darkness.

It is, in every sense, a milestone in modern travel. Virgin Galactic has taken the structure of luxury (comfort, service and exclusivity) and redirected it toward experience, curiosity and perspective. The company is, in effect, selling access to a view and the feeling that comes with it: a glimpse of the planet that redefines the idea of home.

The world looks different after you have seen it from space. That, perhaps, is the real value of the ticket. It is not about status but awareness; not an escape from Earth, but a new way of returning to it. As Branson once said, “Every flight is an invitation to see the world differently, to understand our place on this planet, and to carry that perspective forward.”

Branson’s dream was never just to send people upward, but to expand their view outward. As more travellers look beyond Earth’s horizon, they will bring that vision back with them, reshaping not only how we travel, but how we live in the world we call home.

Every flight is an invitation to see the world differently, to understand our place on this planet, and to carry that perspective forward.

Top 10 Golf Courses UK

Whether you’re a pro or just starting out in the sport, there’s no better place to explore the world of golf than in the UK.

Travel & Leisure

Scotland is the birthplace of the game after all, while England is fourth in the world for the number of golf courses it boasts. Then again, Ireland’s two top links courses have some of the most beautiful scenic shots in the world.

If you’re not already gripped by the sport, then you will be after a round or two at some of the following courses – 10 of the best in the UK as far as we’re concerned. See if you agree.

Royal St George’s

Kent

England

An Open Championship venue for more than 130 years, Royal St George’s in Kent boasts Britain’s deepest golf bunker on the fourth hole. This course lies alongside the English Channel and has impressive long fairways. It’s unconventional to say the least, thanks to those massive bunkers and its figure of eight-style design. The majority of holes have blind spots or hazards and keep golfers literally on their toes all the way round. Happily, there’s plenty of wildflowers and thick, green dune grass to add colour to the occasion. This course has hosted 15 Open championships. Royal St George costs £165 to play in Winter, £330 during the Summer months.

Royal Lytham & St Annes

Lytham St Annes

England

Royal Lytham & St Annes is a true icon of links golf. This world-famous course, with its 174 bunkers and subtle terrain, has been the setting for 11 Open Championships and countless dramatic moments in golf history. Lytham is a thinking player’s course, where placement and precision are key. The first hole - a unique par 3 - immediately signals that this is no ordinary round. With the sea breeze often in play, every shot demands attention. A Summer green fee of £350 grants access to one of the finest and most historic tests in the game.

NORTHERN IRELAND

Royal Portrush Golf Club

Portrush

The Venue for the 153rd Open Championships in July this year, Royal Portrush is loved for its dramatic (sometimes cliff top) views, and that of the Irish Sea in particular. Appreciated for its welcoming and ‘non-stuffy’ atmosphere, this course, also impresses with its elevated and spectacular dunes. There are only a couple of holes demanding blind shots and the rest is very playable – even the rough isn’t that bad on a good day. Toughest hole here is the 14th, aptly named Calamity. The current course dates back to 1929 (although the club has been in existence since 1888) and in 2019 two new holes were added. Playing here will cost you £295 during the Summer (the course is closed in winter).

Royal County Down

Newcastle

Many consider it a travesty that the Royal County Down course has never hosted The Open. It has, however, delighted fans of the Walker Cup, Curtis Cup, the now disbanded Irish Open Amateur Championship and, on nine occasions, the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship. The current world champion, Rory McIlroy visits frequently. What makes Royal County Down so special and challenging is its size (7,200 yards from the furthest tees) an idiosyncratic wind and several blind corners. Then there’s the bunkers disguised by thick grass. On the plus side, the views of the Mountains of Mourne are majestic. Sitting in the Murlough Nature Reserve, there’s a different and spectacular view form every hole. Costs for a round are £425 April to October.

ENGLAND

Royal Birkdale

Southport

Sitting resplendent amongst impressive dunes, the 18 holes of the Royal Birkdale all boast elevated tees, making it very popular for those who don’t enjoy blind corners. The fact the course is ‘through’ the dunes, rather than alongside them adds an extra challenge. This course – just 40 minutes north of Liverpool - is also an Open Championship favourite, having hosted the event 10 times now. Play on a day when the nearby Irish sea has a strong wind and this enjoyable course becomes a nightmare for those unaccustomed to such meteorological shenanigans. An off-season weekday game is £240, and it’s £370 at the weekends in Summer.

Sunningdale Golf Club (Old)

Ascot

The first inland golf course to impress back in 1901 when it was designed, Sunningdale in Surrey, sits amongst what was once a pine forest. Great for those who enjoy putting, there are big greens with cross-bunkers and hazards of sand necklaces, as well as banks of heather – all designed to cause diversions, and, of course, add to the beautiful surroundings. The 18-hole course has played host to The Walker Cup, Curtis Cup, Senior Open Championship and the European Open. Alongside the Old Course sits the New Course (which reportedly is more difficult to play). Sunningdale’s Summer green fee is £325 for both the Old and the New courses. Pay £550 a day to play both courses together.

SCOTLAND

The Old Course at St Andrews

St Andrews

It may be the oldest golf course in the world, but that doesn’t detract from its challenges or the beauty of The Old Course at St Andrews. With features such as Hell Bunker and Swilken Bridge, not to mention its undulating nature, even champions are often flummoxed on first arrival here. And talking of champions, a besotted Jack Nicklaus famously announced there was ‘no other golf course even remotely close to” The Old Course. If you fancy a round yourself at this Wembley of the golfing world, just make sure you’re within the maximum permitted handicaps – 24 for men and 36 for women. Summer prices are £340, reducing to £160 in the low season.

Muirfield at Gullane

Gullane

The fourth ever golf course to stage The Open, Muirfield is regarded as an eccentric course thanks to its concentric layout ie nine holes are encircled by a wider nine holes. Then there’s the wind, which hits from all directions. To date the club has staged a total of 15 Open Championships, as well as the first Ryder Cup. But that’s not surprising when you consider the astonishing sea views, deep bunkers (which can be incredibly difficult to emerge from) and the eerie cry of curlews as they soar past. The 9th hole with its seven bunkers is the toughest on this course. The entire course is long, measuring 7,192 yards. The green fee is £325 a round in the Summer months, reducing to £125 in Winter.

Royal Troon in Ayrshire

Troon

Described as “a supreme test of shot making, nerve, power and skill,” Royal Troon on Scotland’s more rugged west coast, hosted The Open last year. And, in fact, it’s hosted the famous championship 11 times now – the first in 1923. Royal Troon is the local club of golfing great Colin Montgomery, whose father was once greenkeeper there. The first hole starts at the beach with views of Ailsa Craig in the Irish Sea, and a bit further up, the Isle of Arran. Famous holes include number eight, the ever narrowing and neat Postage Stamp and number 11, The Railway. Known as the toughest hole of all, a train passes down one side while there’s impenetrable gorse down another. And, as if that wasn’t difficult enough, a fierce wind is often thrown in to the mix too. Book for £420 in Spring/Summer.

Royal Dornoch

Dornoch

Scotland

A four-hour drive from Glasgow, Royal Dornoch may be one of the more remote of the prestige golf courses to access, but that just makes it all the sweeter on finishing. Rated fifth best in the world by Golf Magazine four years ago, it’s not difficult to see why. Not only is the course challenging, fair and fun, but the game is played with the wild North Sea and white sandy beach by your side - regardless of which hole you play. Known for its elevated greens, not to mention the spectacular and colourful scenery, Royal Dornoch is memorable to the say the least. “Spellbinding” is another adjective regularly used to describe this northerly course. Fees are £280 for a Summer round and £155 in Winter.

Festival line up: Summer '25

IT’S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN - SUMMER - AND THAT MEANS FESTIVAL SEASON!

Travel & Leisure

For the line-ups of the UK’s biggest festivals - read on, because we have the inside info right here. We also list some of the more popular esoteric festivals out there...

Reading & Leeds Festivals

Travis Scott, Chappell Roan, Bring Me the Horizon, Becky Hill and Hozier are all headlining this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals. Both take place on August 21 to 24, with different acts appearing on alternative days.

There’ll be plenty of mosh pits to dive in to and also the open-air, immersive, Chevron Stage – first introduced last year – with capacity for up to 40,000 people.

Reading initially launched in 1961 as a jazz festival but over the years it began to follow music trends. The smaller Leeds festival appeared on the scene in 1999 and grows in popularity every year. Expect to pay £325 for a weekend ticket.

www.readingandleedsfestival.com

Glastonbury

Attracting 200,000 visitors annually and beamed in to thousands of UK homes over an entire weekend, Glastonbury needs no introduction.  After all, Worthy Farm is the location for the largest - and most fabulous - greenfield festival in the world. And this year is set to be no exception. Incidentally, 2026 is a fallow year so 2025 should be particularly busy and crazy. Expect to see more than 100 stages,

Headliners for 2025 are Olivia Rodrigo and The 1975. There’s rumours Madonna will make a special appearance. It’s also been whispered that Sam Fender and Harry Styles may also pop by. Rod Stewart (who’ll perform in the Legend spot on Sunday afternoon) and Neil Young have already confirmed they’ll be at this year’s event, which is happening from June 25 to 29. Other big names include Alanis Morissette, Gracie Abrams, The Prodigy, Lola Young, Charli XCX and Biffy Clyro

Latitude

More chilled than many other festivals of its size and ilk, Latitude is great for parents introducing kids to a first big music gathering. Taking place over four days (24 to 27 July) at Henham Park in Suffolk, headliners include Snow Patrol, Sting, Fatboy Slim, Kaiser Chiefs, Elbow and Basement Jaxx. But, of course, it’s not just about music.

You can also pass the time watching plays, tuning in to poetry and literature readings, or laughing your head off at organised and impromptu stand-up comedy. Then there’s the dance workshops, yoga, silent disco and a myriad of crafting activities to become engrossed in. An adult weekend ticket costs £308.

www.latitudefestival.com

Lost Village

Described as a ‘boutique and glamping festival,’ Lost Village is billed as an immersive forest experience with pre-pitched tents and Michelin-starred chefs serving up gourmet food at banquets and glamorous pop-up restaurants.

Stages in this enchanted Lincoln forest, consist of aircraft hangars, scrapyards and the odd lost cabin or two. Embrace wellness, while enjoying comedy. When it comes to music, expect to see Caribou, Four Tet, Joy Orbison and Barry Can’t Swim this year from August 21 to 24. Tickets cost £330 plus a £5 booking fee.

www.lostvillagefestival.com

Houghton

Norfolk’s celebrated dance and music festival, Houghton is set in a huge Sculpture Park in the grounds of Houghton Hall. Popular with celebrities (Kate Middleton turned up last year apparently), expect to see many recognisable faces from stage and screen. DJ Craig Richards puts the sounds together – and has been for eight years now - while local artists provide tours and therapists show you how to reach peak wellness.

Jump aboard the floating pagoda restaurant and indulge in the many culinary delights. Opinionated? Then check out some of the discussions planned for the space-age like Armadillo.

Tickets start from £270.

www.houghtonfestival.co.uk

Wilderness

A more upmarket festival than most (Sponsored by Audi), Wilderness offers a weekend of wellness, amazing food and the option to stay in a tepee. And if that’s not enticing enough, how about a sound bath or a quick sauna?

Set in Cornbury Park, a nature reserve in Oxfordshire, Wilderness takes place from July 31 to August 3. Headliners include rock band Supergrass, Nineties ravers Orbital, and Brit Award-winning indie-rock duo Wet Leg. Look out for Basement Jaxx, who’re returning to a live stage for the first time in a decade. Tickets start from £283.

www.wildernessfestival.com

Isle of Wight

One of the first events to kick off the festival season and now in its 23rd year, since the revival in 2002, the Isle of Wight has been around for even longer than Glastonbury. This year it boasts a fabulous line-up of mainstream music from the likes of Sting, Stereophonics, Justin Timberlake and Faithless. Then there’s Olly Murs, Jess Glynne, James, Elle Eyre, Paul Heaton, Razorlight and Supergrass.

The picturesque setting of Seaclose Park is a star in itself, while there’s the fun of the ferry ride across and back for the 55,000 or so festival attendees. Tickets for this event, from June 19 to 22nd, start from around £290 for a weekend camping ticket.

Wimbledon 2025

For two weeks this summer, you’ll find us glued to the action of the oldest and most prestigious tennis championships around the world.

Events

Get your strawberries and cream ready – Wimbledon is back for another year, and we can hardly wait! For two weeks this summer, you’ll find us glued to the action of the oldest and most prestigious tennis championships around the world.

This is the event that all tennis professionals dream of winning, and since Andy Murray retired in 2024, all eyes on Jack Draper, to see if he has what it takes to replace him as the nation’s tennis sweetheart.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the players who will be tearing up the tennis courts this summer.

...

Men

Jack Draper

Jack has been playing tennis since before he could walk, when he surprised his family by hitting a ball with a racquet at just one year old. Now only 23 years old, Jack has plenty of time to prove himself on the courts and he certainly has the energy and enthusiasm to take him to success.

At the time of writing, Jack was ranked as the 4th best tennis player in the world, making him the only British tennis star in the top 75 of the ATP Rankings. Wimbledon could give him the chance to move up the board even further. Could he be the UK’s next big tennis star?

Jannik Sinner

The 23-year-old Italian was a star of the tennis scene last year and is currently the number one men’s player in the world, but he has yet to win a Wimbledon Championship. The prize will surely be in his sights this year after reaching the quarter finals last year, and the semis the year before.

He is the first Italian to reach the number one position on the ATP Rankings, but he wasn’t a natural-born tennis player like many of his contemporaries. He didn’t really start to find his feet in the sport until his teens, but he continues to practice and improve, so we definitely haven’t seen the best from Jannik yet.

Novak Djokovic

Once ranked as the number one tennis player in the world, Novak currently sits at 6th place in the ATP Rankings. But that doesn’t mean you can rule him out just yet. The Serbian took home a gold medal in the 2024 Olympics, the oldest player to ever win the top award, so he is still a formidable competitor on the court.

That said, Novak has said he will be scaling back his tennis commitments this year, preferring to focus on family life instead. So, it remains to be seen whether we will see him at Wimbledon at all. We’re keeping our fingers crossed, because any match he’s in is one worth watching.

Carlos Alcaraz

This Spanish tennis pro is 2nd in the world, so he’s already proven that he can compete with the best of them. He's also won the men’s singles event at Wimbledon for the past two years in a row, so he must have his eye on a hat-trick.

He might be 2nd at the time of writing, but he’s been top of the ATP Rankings in the past. In fact, in 2022, he was the youngest tennis pro to ever top the Rankings at just 19 years old. With such skill so young, you can only imagine what this passionate player will be capable of with more experience. Carlos is not just one to watch at Wimbledon, he’s one to watch for many years to come!

Women

Elena Rybakina

This 25-year-old has been making an impression at Wimbledon for the past few years and won the women’s singles competition in 2022. She hasn’t managed to retain that title, however, and will be keen to add another win to her CV this year.

She is currently in 11th place on the WTA Rankings as a Kazakhstani national, but Elena’s career actually began in Russia, where she was born. She started playing at the age of six and played her first professional match when she was 15. She has been plagued with medical issues in the past, so here’s hoping for an injury-free season where we can see this talented player shine!

Aryna Sabalenka

Currently sat at the top of the WTA Rankings, Aryna surely has a Wimbledon trophy in her sights, especially as she was forced out of the competition last year with a shoulder injury. She has already won a couple of Australian and US Opens.

The well-known Belarusian will be the woman all the other players will be looking to beat on the court. She has an aggressive playing style and will be defending her Number One World Title for all she’s worth – make sure you tune in to watch any match she’s in!

Barbora Krejcikova

Sitting at 15th on the WTA Rankings, Barbora surprised the world last year when she took Wimbledon by storm. Nobody had expected her to do well, but she held her own against those with far more tournament experience and took home the biggest prize. She’ll be looking to hold onto that trophy again this year, but she’ll be under far more pressure with the eyes of the world on her.

Something tells us this won’t bother the Czech player though, who has been hitting tennis balls since she was six years old. She even has a couple of Olympic medals to her name, so expect more great things from Barbora this year.

Coco Gauff

She may be young, but Coco is certainly making an impression on the tennis world. The American is 2nd on the WTA Rankings, having won a Grand Slam and proving more than a match for other more experienced players. Many have compared her to Serena Williams, who also achieved similar success at a similar age, so let’s hope she brings as much excitement to the court.

At age 15, she was the youngest player to ever qualify for Wimbledon, so she’s no stranger to these courts. Her parents both have a sporting background, but gave up their own aspirations to help their daughter become a tennis pro. Their hard work certainly seems to have paid off!

Of course, this is only a few of the tennis pros hoping to make an impression on the Wimbledon court this summer. You’ll also want to keep an eye on skilled players such as Jasmine Paolini, Marketa Vondrousova, Ons Jabeur, Daniil Medvedev and Cam Norrie is expected to be on the court too. Wimbledon 2025 starts on the Monday 30th June and all the action will be available to watch on the BBC and iPlayer. Make sure you’ve got your best seat lined up in front of the television! (Rankings correct as of 27 May 2025)

Royal Ascot Millinery Collective 2025

With Ascot only a few weeks away, if you haven’t started planning your outfit yet, then there’s no time to lose!

Travel & Leisure

With Ascot only a few weeks away, if you haven’t started planning your outfit yet, then there’s no time to lose!

Everyone knows that Royal Ascot is as much about the fashion as it is about the horses. In fact, for the first time this year, the Royal Ascot Millinery Collective displayed this season’s must-have hats and fascinators at London Fashion Week. This is the first time any sporting business has been accepted into the most famous fashion event in the world, with the designs displayed in a special salon-style show.

This is the 10th year of the Royal Ascot Millinery Collective, led by British fashion designer Daniel Fletcher. The creative fashion icon has selected some special upcoming British designers and established brands to create a capsule collection of hats and fascinators, providing inspiration for those attending and setting the tone for the event. At the same time, he shines a spotlight on a new generation of millinery talent, helping to ensure the future of fashion and hat design.

This year, Daniel has worked with some incredible designers, who have produced headwear worthy of the catwalk. Let’s look at these designers, and their exclusive pieces in a little more detail.

ALEXANDRA HARPER

Frenzied Moment is an enormous picture hat that combines drama and femininity, taking inspiration from My Fair Lady’s famous ‘Ascot Gavotte’ scene. Alexandra Harper wanted to create a timeless celebration of Royal Ascot millinery, with understated shades of grey and white and a flurry of sustainably sourced ostrich feathers. The oversized dome headpiece features a light, floaty fringe, creating mystery and glamour.

CARRIE JENKINSON

Carrie Jenkinson’s headwear merges artistic design with wearability, so that each piece makes a statement in the best way. Whether you’re looking for something elegant, timeless, bold or avant-garde, these hats and fascinators are sure to make an impact.

Just ask stars like Lady Gaga and Beyonce, who have both had the pleasure of wearing Carrie Jenkinson pieces. She’s also designed for the royal family and worked with fashion icons like Vivienne Westwood and Mario Testino, so she has great references! And after 14 years in the industry, she more than deserves her spot on the Ascot Millinery Collective.

“Ascot is the pinnacle of style and elegance, where headwear isn’t just an accessory but a statement. My designs are created with this in mind — pieces that elevate an outfit while allowing the wearer to express individuality with confidence.”

KATHERINE ELIZABETH

Katherine Elizabeth is no stranger to the catwalk, having shown her designs at London and Paris Fashion Weeks and being the first British milliner to showcase UK designs in Bahrain. Her creation for Ascot is called Solar Noir and is designed to make an impact.

Katherine is a country girl at heart, with a love for architecture, and these two things played a huge inspiration in her design. The sun is also a key theme, as she wants her hat to make people feel happy, motivated and uplifted. She believes the sun plays a large part in making us feel energised, empowered, healthy, happy and relaxed.

“I wanted to create something sculptural but uniformed, that is in harmony with itself and well-balanced. The feathers are quills and goose arrowheads; the main body of the hat is a Percher and made from two button blocks that have been covered in bamboo silk in a pleated spiral form with lace applied onto it. I’ve then adorned it with Swarovski crystals.”

MERVE BAYINDIR

Ever looked at a sweeping Art-Nouveau style-staircase and thought it would make a good hat? Merve Bayindir took the idea and ran with it, inspired by the vintage aesthetic, graceful curvature and endless elegance. The sculpted hat creates a sense of upward motion and ascension, symbolising growth, progress and higher ideals. The hat makes use of light and shadow, just like grand architecture, bringing a sense of movement to 'Helix'.

ELIURPI

Eliurpi’s Sculptural Hat brings an air of mystery to your look, with traditional and cultural nature elements. You’d expect nothing less from this Barcelona-based duo, who are as comfortable creating millinery delights as they are working on sculptures and art installations. If you are looking for a work of art for your head, to set off a simple, elegant outfit, then this piece makes total sense.

JANE TAYLOR

Jane Taylor has been designing headwear for the Duchess of Edinburgh for the past 16 years, so she knows a thing or two about style. For Royal Ascot, she wanted to create a hat that would stand out while maintaining a timeless feel – the Luna certainly ticks that box!

“For the Royal Ascot brief, I researched headwear from different decades and felt the design needed a timeless shape and finish. Monochrome is effortlessly elegant and never ages, making it the perfect choice for Royal Ascot. The piece features a hand-shaped, wide-brim oval, creating a beautifully flattering silhouette. I also incorporated a silk headscarf as a nod to classic equestrian style - worn through the ages but reimagined with a modern twist. The scarf drapes into a soft, delicate bow at the back, adding femininity and refinement to the overall look.”

SALLY-ANN PROVAN

When Sally-Ann Provan was asked to create a millinery showpiece for Ascot, she knew she could meet the brief. After all, all her designs are intended to be show-stoppers, and she even has hats on display in the National Museum of Scotland’s ‘Fashion and Style’ gallery. You’ll also find her work on catwalks around the world.

“My headpiece is a playful expression of flowers caught on a breeze, dancing and shedding petals as they move. The colour subtly changes from black through to ivory and is made from nearly 70 of my signature origami flowers, all carefully made by hand from duchesse silk and crystal pearls.

“Royal Ascot is such a special event that deserves the utmost in elegance, it brings out a sense of joy and exuberance through dramatic hats and headwear and encourages you to be bold and impactful.”

AWON GOLDING

A little bit of leopard print in a sea of monochrome designs, 'Wild Cat’ is both timeless and contemporary, inspired by the classic disc hat shapes of mid-century couture. Awon set herself the challenge of combining vintage and modern styles, creating something both elegant and striking. Using the leopard print design as a neutral power print, it is balanced with black duchess satin bows to bring softness, movement and drama.

LISA TAN

Lisa Tan must have been an obvious choice for the Royal Ascot Millinery Collective. Her razor-sharp focus on special occasion millinery ensures she is always busy at this time of year. Taking a turn from the delicate, intricate and feminine pieces of the last few years, Lisa wanted to make a statement with her 2025 collection, favouring bold colours, graphic lines, and a dose of 80s styling.

“The "Aurelia" takes direct inspiration from the title, Crowning a Decade of Style, using my signature sinamay petal crown as the starting point and developing it into the most intricate, elevated version possible. Forty-nine sinamay petals have been painstakingly hand-rolled and hand-sculpted into shape, over the course of almost as many hours as there are petals. The petals are hand-stitched to form layers of swirling halos, suspended by wire into a coolie silhouette which appears to float above the head.”

Hi, I’m Georgia/Gee, a wedding photographer with a passion for storytelling, a creative soul with a slight caffeine dependency. Based in Lancashire, I travel all over the UK capturing love stories in all of their beautiful  documented glory.

For me, photography is so much more than pretty pictures, It’s about telling your story and the moments that make your wedding uniquely yours. I’m drawn to the unscripted, authentic, unexpected tears, belly laughs that make your cheeks ache, stolen glances, and of course, that one uncle owning the dance floor.

My style is fun, warm and intimate. Forget the stiff poses and forced smiles, that’s not my vibe. I want you to feel at ease, whether giggling through your vows, sneaking a quiet moment together, or tearing up the dance floor. My goal is to capture the magic as it unfolds naturally, the emotions, energy, and little quirks that make your day unforgettable.

Your wedding day is more than just the ceremony, the dress, or the venue. It’s the heels left on the dance floor, the personal touches you’ve dreamed of and the quiet moments honoring loved ones who couldn’t be there. From the early morning preparations to the buzz of the band starting the party, I’m here for it all, capturing the details that matter most to you.

I bring high energy when it’s needed, a calm presence for the nerves, and a personal touch to ensure your photos feel like you. If you’re after a photographer who’ll go all in cheering you on, making you laugh, and creating images that instantly take you back to your special day, then look no further. Your love story deserves to be told, and I’d be honored to tell it.

Orchardleigh Estate

A WEEKEND-LONG fairytale wedding

Travel & Leisure

If you’re looking for that fairytale wedding and a celebration that lasts for longer than one day, then Orchardleigh Estate could be the venue of your dreams.

Four days of love

The stunning Victorian mansion is set in the middle of 500 acres of beautiful scenery and is rented exclusively to bridal parties for three or four days at a time. That means you have complete creative control of how you would like your wedding weekend to be. You don’t have to leave at midnight (dance for three days straight if you want!) and you can add any extra special touches to make the day uniquely yours.

Chris and Heather Vincent have owned the property since 1999 and they’ve seen some incredible sights in that time. Some of Chris’ favourite touches were when a couple arrived to their wedding by helicopter. And he loves a singing waiter – to him, entertainment is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle.

“Our beautiful countryside 500-acre estate has a three-mile drive and no neighbours, allowing drinking and dancing till dawn!” That means there are no restrictions on how long you can have entertainment – you could throw a whole wedding festival if you wanted!

A million ways to get married

There are lots of options for where to hold the actual ceremony within the estate. St Mary’s Church sits on an island in the middle and has space for up to 100 guests. There’s also All Saints Church nearby with space for 150 guests.

But if you don’t want a traditional religious ceremony, you can get married absolutely anywhere within the grounds of Orchardleigh! There are a few options that lend themselves more naturally to a civil ceremony, including the countryside pergola, the Belvedere lawn and the garden terrace overlooking the lake. If you’d prefer to marry inside, there’s a Ballroom and a Great Hall that would be perfect for the occasion.

There are so many options, but Chris breaks it down into what is most popular: “Our packages are inclusive of food, unlimited reception and wedding breakfast drinks – there’s no extras here, everything is included.”

Beds for everyone!

And there are plenty of sleeping options too. Most popular is, “A castle with hot tub usually for the girls and a lodge for the boys, sleeping a total of up to 35 for the night before. And there’s the amazing Lakeside Boathouse for the couple the day after to relive the day.”

The accommodation for the guests is just as inviting and there’s space for up to 165 people at any one time. The beauty of a three-day wedding is that you can people come and go as necessary, and you know you’ll definitely have time to talk to all your guests.

And you can be sure nobody will be bored in a venue like this either! With facilities for golf, fishing and shooting on site, there’s always something to entertain your guests – that’s if they’re not too busy soaking in their splendid surroundings!

A little Orchardleigh history

The venue itself has been around since 1856, replacing the original house which dated back to the Norman conquest. William Duckworth built the current mansion, and it stayed in the family for five generations. The final generation had six girls and so they decided to sell up and split the cash.

Chris and Heather bought the site in 1999, but the building was in a bad state, having been empty for 15 years. As the house is a Grade II listed building, it was on the English Heritage risk register with a repair estimate of £6.6m.

But this story had a happy ending, with Chris and Heather doing the necessary work to get the building back to its sparkling self. Four years later, they held their first wedding and that is what they’ve been doing ever since!

With that in mind, Chris is in the perfect position to offer advice to prospective couples. His top tip is to “Relax and enjoy every minute” of your wedding day. And when it comes to choosing a venue, “Shop around look at everywhere then come to us and book our unbeatable package.” Wise words indeed!

The Ultimate Celebration of Design '24

LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL IS BACK FOR ITS 22ND YEAR, PROVING THAT THE BRITISH CAPITAL REALLY IS THE HOME OF DESIGN AND CREATIVITY. AS THE HUB OF DIVERSE DESIGN, IT IS AN EXCITING EVENT WITH UNEXPECTED INSTALLATIONS AROUND EVERY CORNER.

Events

This nine-day event is an opportunity for those in creative industries to showcase their work, find inspiration and network with like-minded individuals. It is set in various locations around London, with talks, exhibitions, workshops and installations attracting people from all over the world. For an idea of the true scale of the festival, the 2019 event boasted a record-breaking 600,000 attendees from 75 countries. This year is likely to be even more popular, making it the best platform for up-and-coming designers to launch their career and open their studios up to the world.

Some of the stand-out showcases from last year included pieces from artists like Henry Moore, Dylan Glyn and Rio Kobayashi. Alongside the fine art installations and unique sculptures, visitors were surprised to see a botanical display from Lego, showing that this festival is for creatives of all types.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS YEAR

The festival likes to highlight topical issues through design. The last few years have seen more exhibitors tackling subjects like sustainability, AI and inclusivity, which are likely to be key themes this year too. But we are also seeing the idea of play becoming a strong theme, with its ability to strengthen bonds, improve wellbeing and enhance creativity.

Some of the highlights you can look forward to this year include an exciting innovation from Johnnie Walker, the Vert installation at the Parade Ground of the Chelsea College of Art and the suspended installation Duo at the Royal Naval College’s Painted Hall.

THE STORY OF LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL

The festival is the brainchild of Sir John Sorrell CBE and Ben Evans CBE, who wanted to bring a focus to the emerging design industry in the UK. The first event was held in 2003 and has been a huge boost to the economy. This first design festival became the template for other festivals around the world as other countries tried to emulate its success. But, as we know, nobody could do this quite like London!

The Mayor of London is a huge supporter of the event, which has helped the festival secure the necessary funding to make it bigger and better than ever before. Since he publicly declared his support in 2019, the Mayor has boosted festival sales by £66 million – this really is the event for struggling artists to finally make their mark.

But it’s not just about the extra income that the event creates. The London Design Festival gives creatives the chance to find new inspiration and learn new skills. They can learn from each other to bring a more holistic approach to their work, spreading their artistic knowledge to help create a richer design community.

This ethos and support means the organisers could have their pick of large conference venues in London to use. But it is never confined in one space, spilling out across the capital into artists’ own studios and unique spaces, divided into 11 design districts. Each district offers something slightly different, with its own personality and are located close to each other, so you can easily stumble out of one and into another. The districts are: Bankside Design District, Battersea Design District, Brompton Design District, Chelsea Design District, Dalston to Stokey Design District, Fitzrovia Design District, Greenwich Peninsula Design District, Mayfair Design District, Park Royal Design District, Shoreditch Design Triangle and William Morris Design Line.

Visitors to the city may come across installations as they dash for the tube or stroll through one of the public parks. It makes a trip to London all the more exciting – who knows what you will see?

LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL 2024 DETAILS

The London Design Festival is running from the 14th to the 22nd September 2024. Most of the events are free to attend, so you don’t have to book your place. It is worth noting, however, that some shows and exhibitions are likely to get crowded quite quickly, so you want to arrive as early as possible for the best experience. Find out more about the event at www.londondesignfestival.com

LONDON FASHION WEEK

12 – 17 SEPTEMBER 2024

Why we still love London Fashion Week

After 40 years of our favourite fashion event, we love LFW more than ever. With some critics questioning if the biannual showcase is still relevant, we look at the history behind our favourite calendar entry and celebrate all the reasons why it is still important to the industry.

The founder of fashion

The story of the famous Fashion Weeks begins with a man called Charles Frederick Worth, also known to many as the founder of haute couture and modelling. Based in Paris in 1850, he wanted to increase his customer base and had the original idea of presenting one collection at a time to his audience. By doing this bi-annually, he had two opportunities a year to display his work to a larger potential customer base all at once.

This was unique in the world of fashion at the time. The first fashion show wasn’t recorded in New York until 1903, so Worth was years ahead of his time. The New York show was held at the Ehrich Brothers store and was so popular that suddenly every designer wanted a show of their own. By 1910, fashion shows were regular events in department stores across America.

At that time, America was still heavily influenced by Parisian fashion, but when the Second World War began, this fashion avenue was closed off to the rest of the world.

The PR queen

The second hero of our story is a lady called Eleanor Lambert. She was the founder of the Met Ball and began the International Best Dressed List. And she took it upon herself to establish the American fashion scene independently of Paris.

The first New York Fashion Week was in 1943 and was created to showcase the brilliance of American designers. It was then called New York Press Week and was set up for press to attend only – fashion buyers had to make appointments to view the collections.

In 1958, Milan joined the party with its first Fashion Week held by the National Chamber for Italian Fashion. There are reports that there may have been earlier events held in Florence too.

And then Paris had its first official Fashion Week in 1973, supported by Lambert. This was a ‘competition’ between French and American designers, giving the event an exciting edge. Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Cardin flew the flag for France, while America was represented by Oscar de la Renta, Anne Klein and Stephen Burrows.

The Big Four is complete

In 1984, London completed the ‘big four’ with its first Fashion Week. It boasted the debut of John Galiano and other design giants like Vivienne Westwood. Despite being the last to join in, London has had some forward-thinking ideas, being the first to live-stream a Fashion Week event in 2010. It now attracts more guests than Milan and Paris and is a key event on the fashion calendar.

With fashion becoming ever faster in our digital society, some have questioned the relevance of Fashion Week today. However, these events are still considered to be huge marketing, influencing and networking opportunities. They help to forecast trends, tell a story through the medium of clothing and transport us to a fantasy world. Buyers rely hugely on the events to decide what will be the biggest sellers in their stores. Without Fashion Week, there would be very little strategic planning on our high street and online stores and the industry just wouldn’t be what it is today.

A capital event

This year marks 40 years since the very first London Fashion Week, organised by Lynne Franks, and of course, the February event was not going to pass without some kind of celebration of this milestone. It was a colossal event, with 67 designers, 46 catwalks and 36 events in total and an amazing opportunity to see creations by established designers like Burberry and Simone Rocha, as well as up-and-coming names like Olly Shinder and Camille Liu. Trust us, these are names you will be seeing more of soon!

It was also a great excuse to look back at some of the most iconic moments from the event over the years. Who can forget Prince’s surprise performance at the start of a Matthew Williamson show in 2008 and the Alexander McQueen dress that was spray painted by robots on the catwalk in 1999? Naomi Campbell’s fall in 1993 has gone down in history – no one else could have turned such a potentially embarrassing moment into one of iconic brilliance as well as she did. And did you ever think you would see a coffee table become a dress, like the one Hussein Chalayan displayed in 2000? You never know what to expect at LFW!

On to the next one

The next London Fashion Week is scheduled for 12th – 17th September 2024 and looks likely to be as fantastic as ever. Most of the action happens at 180 The Strand, but some designers prefer to hold their shows at different locations around the city, making for an eclectic event.

LFW SS25 will showcase designs for the upcoming Spring/Summer season and, as usual, will be an invite-only event. But you can still catch the action from home, as most designer showcases will be streamed at www.londonfashionweek.co.uk and many brands put them on their own social media accounts too.

At the time of writing, the schedule had not yet been finalised or any exhibitor details confirmed. But if AW24 is anything to go by, it is sure to be an event to remember.

Bank holiday Festival Weekend '24

August bank holiday weekend is one of the busiest days of the year, with festivals happening all around the UK, appealing to a huge audience of different people. Have you got your ticket for one of these big events yet?

Travel & Leisure

Creamfields

22nd – 25th August

If you prefer your music with an electronic dance edge, then you should be at Creamfields. One of the biggest music events of the year, it regularly attracts some of the biggest acts in the dance world. This year’s line-up includes the return of heavyweights such as Calvin Harris, Tiesto and Skepto as well as some newbies to the scene that you won’t want ato miss.

The brainchild of event organisers, Cream, Creamfields started as a one-day event in Hampshire in 1998, with an attendance of over 25,000 people and headliners including Daft Punk, Paul van Dyke and Sasha, so it was always destined to go down in history, but it has grown from strength to strength ever since.

Back then, a ticket was only £37.50, but now they have a range of ticket options starting from £75 for a day ticket, up to £430 for a four-day Gold ticket. The different ticket types determine the level of comfort you can enjoy while staying at Creamfields.

The standard ticket gives you basic facilities where you can pitch a tent and access to the main arena.

The bronze ticket includes hot showers, ‘proper’ toilets and access to the main arena.

The silver tickets gives you the same, plus a pamper tent and free car parking ticket.

The gold ticket gives you all the above plus access to the Gold Hospitality Arena which includes one complementary meal a day and a cocktail bar.

There are also standard and gold day tickets. While a standard day ticket just gives you access to the main arena, the gold ticket also offers free parking, hospitality arena, food and ‘proper’ toilets. And we all know how important ‘proper’ toilets are at a festival!

Set over four days in Cheshire, tickets are now extremely limited, but you can camp on site, making for a proper festival experience. There are also glamping spaces, for those that want a few more luxuries and if you really can’t bear the thought of sleeping in a field, then there are plenty of local hotels.

There is on-site parking, which has to be booked in advance, and shuttle buses running to and from all the major local towns, such as Liverpool, Warrington and Manchester, so it’s easy to get to the campsite. Once you’re in, there’s no nipping out to collect more supplies, as security won’t let you back in, so you’ll need to be well prepared before you leave.

Join the madness at

Notting Hill Carnival

24th - 26th August

The very first Notting Hill Carnival took place in 1966, led by local activist and human rights campaigner, Rhaune Laslett. The aim was to bring all the local inter-cultural communities together, so they could live in London in peace, without any racial or cultural tension. Entertainment was provided by a local West Indies pan band and had the desired effect of drawing local Caribbean people to the event. The band made its way along Portobello Road and drew a huge crowd.

The event is now an important event on the capital’s calendar and is bigger than Laslett could ever have dreamed. It is now the second largest carnival in the world (only Rio Carnival in Brazil is bigger), drawing over five million people each year. To accommodate so many visitors, it is set out over the three-day weekend, with paid and unpaid events throughout London.

Steel bands still form a key part of the event, with the UK National Panorama Steel Band Competition in Pleasance Park on the Saturday. Sunday is the main day, with a J’Ouvert early morning launch following Caribbean tradition, followed by an Official Opening Ceremony, Children’s Day Parade, Dutty Fun/Mas (you will get messy!) and then the Sound Systems, where you can dance to reggae music all afternoon long. Monday features the adult parade and more Sound Systems.

You’ll be able to enjoy Caribbean food all weekend and there are always some big headliner acts announced. You’ll have to keep an eye on the website and Notting Hill Carnival socials to find out who they are – some aren’t announced until the very last minute!

If you’re travelling down from the Midlands, it’s probably best to travel by train and then jump on the tube once you’re in London. It’s a nine-minute walk from Notting Hill Gate which is accessible by the Circle and District or Central Line. Alternatively, you could stay in London for the weekend, but Air BnBs, hotels and guest houses fill up months before and prices go up in preparation for this busy time of year, so it’s best to book as far in advance as possible.

Reading & Leeds

23rd – 25th August

If your idea of a good weekend is rocking out to some of the biggest names in rock, indie and alternative music, then you can’t miss the Reading and Leeds festival. As the name suggests, the event is held over three days at two different venues, with the same line-up but on different days, appealing to people from the north and south of the country. The bonus of this arrangement is that if you miss out on tickets to one of the festivals, you might still be able to make it to the other one, with coach tickets available from some of the bigger cities.

Since its inception, Reading and Leeds has constantly moved with the times,

reflecting current trends in the musical zeitgeist, organically evolving into the much-loved festival that it is now. With an array of genres from its rock roots to dance and pop, headlining this year are some of the biggest artists in music, such as Lana Del Rey and Fred Again, Blink 182 and Liam Gallagher. With seven stages with jam-packed schedules, your biggest dilemma will be choosing which acts to watch!

Weekend tickets are £325 each for standard camping. There are also day tickets available and VIP tickets for those that need a little more glamour to their festival.

The venues are easily accessed via public transport, with links via shuttle bus, train, coach and even shuttleboat! And car parking tickets are also available. There are places to stay around the festival if camping is not for you, but they book up early and you don’t get the full festival experience this way!

Looks like you’re set for a musical bank holiday! Find out more about get your tickets at:

Our 10 Most Exclusive Ski Resorts Around the World

We’ve put together this list of ski resorts that are more exclusive than the traditional tourist traps, so you can enjoy a more peaceful piste.

Travel & Leisure

OUR 10 MOST EXCLUSIVE SKI RESORTS AROUND THE WORLD

Whether you’re a skiing pro or yet to master the slopes, it can be distracting to try and get to the bottom with any kind of grace when the mountains are overcrowded. That’s why we’ve put together this list of ski resorts that are more exclusive than the traditional tourist traps, so you can enjoy a more peaceful piste.

1 - Whistler

CANADA

The resort that hosted the Winter Olympics 2010, Whistler really does have it all. With plenty of mixed terrain and varied runs, this resort gets some impressive snowfall, making for a longer-than-usual ski season and an incredible view no matter where you stand on the mountain.

The celebrities love Whistler, perhaps because they have the option to arrive by helicopter. This is a popular transportation choice for visitors making the short trip from Vancouver airport to the mountain. In fact, you can spend your whole visit in a helicopter if you like, with Heliski taking you to the most pristine runs on the mountain, with little traffic and the freshest snow. It doesn’t get more exclusive than that!

And when it comes to deciding where to stay, you can’t go wrong with the Four Seasons Hotel, where you can soothe tired muscles with heat treatments in the luxurious spa.

2 - Courchevel

FRANCE

Of course, you can’t have a list of exclusive ski resorts without mentioning Courchevel. A favourite destination of the A-list, there are so many trails to explore and some truly breath-taking views to discover from the peaks. It’s a great choice for beginners and experts, with some lovely gentle slopes to practice on and some off-piste runs to challenge those with more experience.

And the food in the area is divine too, but you will have to book to have a hope of eating in any of the best establishments. You have to try one of the incredible desserts at Cedric Grolet, and of course, because its France, you’ll need to find a good raclette or a tartiflette.

If you want to experience Courchevel like the royal family then you need to stay at their favourite spot, Les Airelles. This decedent, palace-style hotel is the most luxurious spot in the mountains.

3 - Niseko

JAPAN

Niseko is less well-known than many of the other ski resorts on our list, which automatically makes it a little quieter than the rest. It might not stay that way for long though, as this is definitely an up-and-coming destination.

There are four ski resorts on the mountain, collectively known as Niseko United. To enjoy the most luxurious ski experience, you’ll want to stay at the Higashiyama Niseko Village. It doesn’t matter which room you stay in, you’ll get incredible views of one of the surrounding mountains. One of the views comes courtesy of the hot spring bathtub, bringing you true relaxation in privacy.

Niseko Village is a small resort compared to some of the others, but it offers gentle runs for beginners and some long, steep slopes for more experienced skiers. And if you do find yourself running out of snow, your ski pass gives you access to the other resorts too, so you can spend weeks exploring if you like!

4 - Lech

AUSTRIA

Lech is a great resort for those just starting to get their ski legs. There are no black runs here, only blue and red, so you can relax a little as you make your way down the slopes. If you are an experienced skier, however, you will find lots of off-piste trails to follow, adding a little excitement to your visit.

This is another resort that offers heliskiing, something you really should try for the most exclusive experience. But it is the food that might sway your booking decision, with several Michelin star restaurants in the area’s many boutique hotels. Nothing tastes quite as good as the dinner you’ve earned after a hard day on the slopes and these establishments have attracted many a famous diner.

And those famous guests usually stay at Severin’s Alpin Hotel. This luxury resort offers premium suites worthy of royalty and a wellness area that will help bring your muscles back to life.

5 - Klosters

SWITZERLAND

Another resort set in the Swiss alps, Klosters is always alive with celebrities, royals and millionaires. It’s a relatively small resort compared to others, and is situated right next to the bigger, more popular Davos, but that’s what makes it such a great place for a quiet ski retreat. Let the tourists flock to the flashier resorts and enjoy a little exclusivity in Klosters.

This is the home of “stealth wealth”. You won’t find big designer boutiques or fancy five-star hotels, but you might stumble across a member of the royal family as you make your way onto the slopes. They particularly like to stay at Chalet Eugiena, an 11-bedroom escape that is the epitome of quiet luxury.

Klosters has 300km of slopes for you to slide down, but if you do find yourself yearning for a little more action, it’s easy to pop over to Davos for a day, giving you the best of both worlds in one ski trip.

6 - Verbier

SWITZERLAND

The World’s Best Ski Resort (according to the World Ski Awards in 2021 and 2022) is part of the Four Valleys in Switzerland, all of which offer incredible ski opportunities, but there’s something a little special about Verbier. With amazing views of Mount Blanc and the Matterhorn from the highest peaks, this is a wonderful resort for more experienced skiers looking for a challenge. There’s plenty of off-piste powder to entice thrill-seekers, but not so much for beginners.

The apres-ski scene is lively, with plenty of excellent bars, restaurants and nightclubs to distract you from the slopes. You are almost guaranteed sun and fluffy snow during the ski season, due to the altitude of the resort, making it popular with the rich and famous. Some of these celebrities have stayed at the Hotel Farinet, a beautiful accommodation with a lively atmosphere and easy access to the Verbier resort.

7 - Val D’Isere

FRANCE

Offering one of the longest ski seasons in Europe thanks to its high altitude, Val D’Isere is all about the ski scene. There’s something for all abilities to enjoy, including the 1992 Olympics Men’s Downhill slope for you to test your skills on – could you be an Olympic skier one day?

This Alpine resort is just a short distance from the French/Italian border, giving you the opportunity to ski into another country if you head over to Tignes. With over 90 lifts in the area, you are unlikely to exhaust all your ski options – there is plenty to explore, including a lot of off-piste powder! Those with a little more ski-skill under their belt might want to check out one of the two glaciers, which are sure to test your courage!

And where to stay while you’re there? Le K2 Chogori is a relatively new boutique hotel that’s only open during the ski season. It is perfectly set-up for skiers, with a range of wellness facilities that will make your stay feel like a dream.

So, where are you off to on your next ski trip? There’s plenty of incredible resorts to choose from.

8 - Aspen

USA

Possibly the most famous ski resort in the world, these four mountains tower over Colorado, enticing celebrities and snow-lovers from near and far. This ski resort is so extra that it even has its own airport, so you can fly right into the snow, making transfers easy.

Full of fine dining, art galleries and designer boutiques, you might struggle to find time to ski! But if you do make it to the slopes, you’ll be treated to heated gondolas and mid-piste champagne bars. With plenty of ski opportunities to choose from, spread out over Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands, you certainly won’t get bored at this resort!

And for the most luxurious way to start and end your days, you’ll want to book in at The Little Nell. It is right at the center of all the ski action, allowing you to ski out of the front door, but it also offers world-class comfort.

9 - Cortina

ITALY

Regular skiers need to put Cortina on their bucket list because this is the ultimate ski resort. With incredible views, amazing food and a fabulous apres-ski scene, there are over 1000km of slopes to ski down, keeping you busy for a good while!

There are some great ski tours to enjoy too. History buffs will love the Great War Tour, which allows you to ski through snow-covered heritage sites, while the Super 8 tour even incorporates a horse-drawn stretch as you explore the wonders of the nearby mountains.

If you’d rather seek thrills, there are 13 black runs to explore. Are you brave enough to try them all?

And there’s no better place to relax after your adventures than at the five-star Grand Hotel Miramonti Majestic, which is close to the ski action but far enough away to feel like a retreat.

10 - Gstaad

SWITZERLAND

The celebrities love Gstaad for skiing and it is easy to see why. Gstaad Palace is the hotel of choice, and has been for over 50 years, ensuring patrons live in the absolute lap of luxury after a hard day on the slopes. From here, the best ski spots are Wispile and Wasserngrat. Wispile is perfect for family skiing, with plenty of nursery slopes to help you get your piste legs, while Wasserngrat is where you’ll find The Tiger Run, the steepest run in Gstaad which is also quite long – great for thrill-seekers!

The resort sits in the centre of four valleys. Wispile and Wasserngrat are in one direction, but if you really want to take your time to explore the area, you have three other routes to choose from! Take the gondola from the edge of the village to the top of Saanen, or head over to the valley that comprises Schönried, Saanenmoser and Zweissimen. The choices are endless, and each one is more beautiful than the last!

The Firs

Are you ready for a glamping holiday of a lifetime?

Weddings

When you hear the term ‘getting back to nature’, your brain might automatically turn to the idea of outdoor showers and treks through forests, and you’d be right! But The Firs brings an element of luxury to your visit, so you never feel like you’re slumming it. Instead, you can count it as an experience you’ll never forget, for all the right reasons. Are you ready for a glamping holiday of a lifetime?

A BLISSFUL HIDEAWAY

The 22-acre site is set around a farmhouse and has a range of glamping accommodation options for you to choose from, with large bell tents and teepees for you to get comfortable in. All are equipped with proper beds, mattresses and bedding, so you are guaranteed a good night’s sleep in nature. One of the best things about the location is that it is just a short drive from Birmingham. Turn off at J5 on the M5 and you are almost there, so you can plan regular retreats without having to travel too far.

And despite its proximity to the city, you will feel like you’re a million miles away from all the chaos. And it is the perfect location for big groups of people to stay. You can book out the whole venue for your occasion, whether that’s a birthday, anniversary, wellness retreat or a wedding and there will be room for everyone.

To add that premium edge to your visit, The Firs has recently obtained its alcohol license and there is now has a bar. There are plans for a fine-dining set-up in the woodlands, allowing you to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the space at the same time as eating really good food. There are fire pits, which are great for relaxing around in the evening, and the showers might be outdoors, but they come with some truly breathtaking views that will make for a lovely cleansing experience.

A LAID-BACK VIBE

Sarah and Zak Sweeney took over the site in 2019, but this is their second season welcoming guests. They have a lot of ideas on how to create a chilled-out, festival space, with plans to convert some of the grade-II listed barns to high-end holiday lets and a full calendar of wellness activities currently being created.

But if you don’t want to follow a timetable, this is the perfect place to unwind and take your time. There are lots of local attractions within walking distance, including National Trust site Hanbury Hall and plenty of village-style pubs. If you just want to put on your walking boots and head out, the site lies right on the Hanbury Circular, so you can stroll to your heart’s content!

A TAILORED RETREAT

Sarah considers The Firs to be a blank canvas when it comes to retreats. She is happy to tailor a whole weekend around what her guests want. In the past they’ve had people bring alpacas, bucking broncos and arcade machines, but she suggests that it would also be a great spot for clay pigeon shooting, axe-throwing or garden games. She’s keen to provide for everyone.

Sarah has a full directory of wellness practitioners on hand. From yoga instructors, meditation experts and breathwork guides to those offering sound baths, nutritional information and rapid transformational therapy. In the future you might also see cold water plunge baths on the site. So, if you want to organise your own wellness retreat that works around your groups’ needs, Sarah can help.

One of the loveliest things about The Firs is that whichever accommodation option you choose, you’ll feel like you’ve picked the best one. Sarah still can’t pick a favourite spot, “The haybarn is probably one of my favourite places. The glamping feels lovely because it’s got a nice view, but the woodlands, especially in April, it’s like a sea of bluebells, it’s quite stunning. People always say it’s quite magical here”.

Redhouse Barn

15 years of wedding bliss

Weddings

“The couple don’t have to do anything on their wedding day here”

Redhouse Barn has just celebrated its crystal anniversary – the 5th September 2024 marked 15 years of weddings at this specialist design-built venue. Despite being one of hundreds of wedding venues in the county of Worcestershire, it is easy to see why Redhouse Barn has stood the test of time.

We spoke to owners Jeremy Bellis and Jane Finch to see what makes this such a special venue for your big day.

A wedding as unique as the couple

“There is a lot that we do that other venues don’t. It is very much a high-end lifestyle business for us rather than a wedding factory. We only do around 60 weddings a year, so it’s about quality rather than quantity and the experience that couples and their guests have with us.

“We don’t restrict couples to food or drink packages – everything is tailored by our caterers Morgans, ensuring couples have what they want. Once they have designed their menu with Chef Anthony Morgan, they have the opportunity to have a meal of their actual wedding breakfast at the Barns. See how the food looks, importantly, how it tastes, to experience the service and make any tweaks. And we hold wine tastings for the couples and their parents twice a year.

“Each table has a member of staff to serve the food as soon as it is ready, which means it is served piping hot and those posh scotch eggs are runny. Our ‘staff to guest’ ratio is very high ensuring an exceptional service experience.”

Taking on the weight of the wedding

The Redhouse Barn team is very hands-on once the wedding planning is underway. Jane & Jeremy live on-site, so they are available to contact day and night.

“We sort as much as possible. We set up most of the wedding accessories and tables. The couple don’t have to do anything on their wedding day here, they just have to enjoy every moment of it. The attentive MC and front of house managers ensure that everything is done in a timely and seamless way without any fuss.”

Making it special

The flexibility of a civil ceremony on site means couples can get married anywhere within the five-acre grounds of Redhouse Farm. There’s over an acre of formal gardens, koi ponds, waterfalls, perfectly striped lawns and play lawns, ensuring that no matter where you set up, the photos will be incredible. There are equally impressive indoor options too, so you never have to worry about the weather.

The venue is well-equipped to make for a hassle-free, special day. There are fairy-lit trees, garden games, lanterns and accessories, as well as a full Bose sound-system, light-up LED dance floor and professional special effects lighting rig. There’s even a large drop-down screen and digital Bluetooth projector that allows guests to share messages, use during speeches or for the couple to show lots of pictures of their journey together.

But Jane believes that a good wedding relies on a great party and on good food. “Nobody wants a wedding that is remembered for them being hungry, so feed your guests well – it’s a long day with alcohol throughout, so delicious food keeps hunger at bay.”

That’s why Morgans cook all the food fresh, in-house, with a catering team that have previously won The Wedding Industry Awards and The Food Industry Awards ‘Caterers of the Year’. Meanwhile, Redhouse Barn has been awarded The Wedding Industry Awards and English Weddings ‘Wedding Venue of the Year’. So as far as accolades are concerned, you’re in good hands!

“Take a few moments throughout the day to spend time with each other”

Not just a wedding venue

Redhouse Barn is great for other events too. In the past they’ve hosted children’s parties, anniversary dinners and corporate events. They recently held HSBC’s client breakfast meeting and a very successful corporate marketing and rebranding launch to 180 staff for a large Midlands accountancy business.

The Barn has space for 160 seated or 200 to party, while smaller events can be held in the Lounge Bar. “We can do most types of event – just come and chat to us!”

But of course, weddings are still the main focus for Redhouse Barn. Jane has a top tip for her couples: “Take a few moments throughout the day to spend time with each other and step out of the wedding bubble to take in what’s happening. The day goes by really quickly, so enjoy those small moments.”

Want to discover the magic of Redhouse Barn for yourself? Their next wedding open event is Sunday 12th January 2025. Could this be the wedding venue you’ve been looking for?

Let’s celebrate International Men’s Day

This is an important day in the global calendar that helps mark the contribution that men and boys make to society, creating positive conversations about men, manhood and masculinity.

Health & Wellness

This is an important day in the global calendar that helps mark the contribution that men and boys make to society, creating positive conversations about men, manhood and masculinity.

This annual event helps to raise awareness about some of the biggest issues facing men in the world right now, such as the rising rates of male suicide, male health and a lack of positive male role models. The issues may differ depending on the country the men are in, but the importance of improving male wellbeing is the same.

What to look out for on International Men’s Day

In the past, there have been parliamentary debates, community events and charity fundraisers. Look out for lectures, book launches, student events and comedy nights in your area too – there really is no limit to the ways you can celebrate the day.

Every event is intended to entertain, while highlighting the biggest issues facing men in society today.

Want to throw your own International Men’s Day event?

Whether you have your own business or you are an individual wanting to mark the occasion, there are lots of ways you can get involved,

If you have your own business, you might arrange to get an influential speaker to talk to your employees about masculine wellbeing or any of the issues facing them in the workplace. You might also like to spread the messages of International Men’s Day via your company social media channels, allowing you to reach more people and showing your support for your customers.

Why not sign up to volunteer for charities like the ManKind Initiative, DadsMatter or Andy’s Man Club? That way you can help to keep the important messages alive long after International Men’s Day is over.

On a more personal level, you might want to send a card or a message to a man you admire or one that you thin needs your support. And if you decide to hold a community event, make sure you get in touch with the team at International Men’s Day UK via their email address: contact@ukmensday.org.uk so they can list it in their event section and help to make it a success.

How to elevate your Halloween celebrations

It’s that time of year again, when we celebrate all things spooky! If you’re planning a Halloween party butyou’d rather skip all the tacky decorations and do it in style, read on for ourluxury spooky guide!

Events

WEAR

Avoid cheap, flammable Halloween costumes and opt for one-of-a-kindpieces that ensure nobody else turns up in the same outfit as you. This mightmean you have to think a little outside of the box about where you buy yourcostume.

Try online sites like Etsy, where you’ll find unique handmade outfits.Of course, as with any online marketplace, you’ll need to check the reviews ofanyone you buy from to ensure you’re buying a good quality item. But this isthe best way to find something original and you’ll be helping a small businesstoo.

If you’ve got a little more time to plan, why not get something bespoke?Check out Molly Limpet’s Theatrical Emporium Ltd in Sheffield, ForeverEntertainment in Birmingham or head to London to get something special fromPrangsta Costumiers. Go that extra mile for your outfit and you’ll be sure tostand out!

DECORATE

The decorations are potentially more important than your outfit, sinceyou want to give luxury Halloween vibes while avoiding the mainstream decorthat adorns the high street at this time of year.

Start by getting the colour theme right – you want dark, autumnal shadesof brown, purple and burnt orange to set the scene. Then you can accentuatethis with large crystals like obsidian, known for its protective and balancingqualities, orange calcite, which gives pumpkin vibes, and clear quartz, whichtakes energy from surrounding crystals to amplify their effect. If you can findthese crystals carved into a skull shape, so much the better!

Keep the lights off and illuminate your home with some safely andstrategically placed candles. You’ll find some gorgeous options atwww.swealthy.co.uk. Make sure they are in lanterns, or placed out of the way ofguests who might accidentally knock them over, especially once the drinks areflowing!

DRINKS

A classy party needs cocktails and there are some fantastic options whenit comes to spooky themes.

Get the party started with a Corpse Reviver, a potent blend of cognac, calvados and red vermouth.

Then impress your guests with a Pumpkin Spice Margarita, a delicious mixof Cointreau, lemon juice, lime juice, tequila and pumpkin puree.

Make a Bloody Rum Punch with white rum, Triple Sec, red wine, lime juiceand sugar syup, with a few slices of fruit floating around to ensure guests canalways help themselves to a drink.

And then finish the event with a Rotten Pumpkin, which mixes BlackSambuca and orange juice.

Need to offer a shot? A Frisky Witch is equal parts Black Sambuca andvodka! You can find details of how to make these drinks at makemeacocktail.com.

The most important part about Halloween isthat it should be fun – if a cheap plastic skeleton or a badly carved pumpkinfinds its way into a corner, embrace the silliness! Because once Halloween’sdone, it’s all about Christmas!
