Iconic Birmingham comedy venue The Glee Club, which first opened in Birmingham’s city centre in 1994 as the UK’s first dedicated live stand-up comedy club outside London, has teamed up with ten of the city’s favourite independent businesses to give away free comedy tickets. The giveaway aims to encourage people to discover and support the local venues that make Birmingham so special.
Launched on Thursday 13 August, ‘The Big Glee Giveaway’ is seeing hundreds of free tickets hidden across a selection of independent cafés, restaurants, bars and shops throughout Birmingham, giving customers the chance to enjoy a complimentary night of live comedy while supporting local businesses.
To be in with a chance of grabbing free tickets, comedy fans simply need to visit one of the participating venues, make a purchase and ask whether they have any Glee Club tickets available.
The giveaway operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with tickets valid for selected comedy shows taking place between 14 August and 26 September.
The campaign has been designed to introduce new customers to both The Glee Club and some of Birmingham’s thriving independent businesses, while rewarding local customers with a free night of live entertainment.
The ten Birmingham businesses taking part are Arch 13, Plonk, The Heath Bookshop, Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath, Grace + James, BMAG’s shop, Faculty, 1000 Trades, Cherry Reds and Tiger Bites Pig.
The Glee Club founder, Mark Tughan, said: “Independent businesses are at the heart of what makes our city so vibrant. We wanted to create a giveaway that not only rewards audiences with a great night out, but also shines a spotlight on the fantastic local businesses that deserve our support. By working together, we hope to encourage people to discover somewhere new, shop local and enjoy plenty of laughter along the way.”
‘The Big Glee Giveaway’ forms part of The Glee Club’s summer comedy programme, with shows taking place throughout August and September featuring some of the UK’s best stand-up comedians.
The giveaway locations have been revealed through The Glee Club and I Choose Birmingham’s social media channels, giving comedy fans the chance to discover some of the city’s independent businesses while hunting down free tickets.
