Guests can continue to expect theItihaas they know and love, but behind the scenes the next chapter has alreadybegun. The new ownership team is already making improvements across therestaurant, with further investment and a broader vision for the future to beannounced later this year.
The acquisition, completed on 22July 2026, marks My Delhi's first venture into Birmingham and the group's firstacquisition. While ownership has changed, diners can be reassured that Itihaaswill continue to trade under its iconic name, with its heritage, reputation andwarm hospitality remaining firmly at the heart of the restaurant.
Founded in Newcastle in 2019, MyDelhi has grown from a single restaurant into one of the UK's most excitingindependent Indian restaurant groups, with successful venues in Newcastle,Sunderland and Leicester, and Leeds set to open soon. Inspired by the vibrantculture and flavours of India's capital city, My Delhi has become renowned forits bold regional dishes, immersive dining experiences and modern take onIndian hospitality, earning national recognition from the BBC along the way.
The new ownership team includesMy Delhi founders Elahi Amin, Executive Chef Gaurav Dayal, Shah Amin, GauravGoyal and Neha Goyal. For Birmingham residents Gaurav and Neha, bringing MyDelhi to their home city through the acquisition of Itihaas is especiallymeaningful.
While the restaurant willcontinue to operate as Itihaas, all staff members have retained their jobs and thenew owners will reveal their longer-term vision for the business later thisyear.
Raj Rana, who founded Itihaas in2004, said finding the right people to continue the restaurant's story hadalways been his priority.
He says, "Itihaas has been ahuge part of my life and this was never simply about finding a buyer.
"For more thantwenty years we've built something that people genuinely care about. I wantedto find a team that would respect everything we've created, support our peopleand continue building on the reputation Itihaas has earned.
"From our veryfirst conversations, it was clear this team shared those values. They've builtan exceptional restaurant business, but more importantly they understandhospitality, people and what it takes to create something with lasting impact.
"I have everyconfidence they'll protect what makes Itihaas so special while giving it theinvestment, care and leadership it deserves for many years to come."
Speaking on behalf of the newownership team, Elahi Amin described the acquisition as a landmark moment forMy Delhi.
"We've admiredItihaas for many years. Restaurants with this history, reputation andconnection to their city rarely become available.
"To be entrustedwith its future is both an honour and a privilege. We're not here to changewhat people love about Itihaas – we're here to protect its legacy, invest inits future and ensure it continues to thrive for generations to come.
"We'll bringeverything we've learned from building My Delhi into this next chapter whilerespecting the heritage, people and reputation that have made Itihaas such animportant part of Birmingham's dining scene."
Gaurav Goyal added:"Birmingham is our home and Itihaas is part of the city's food story. Thiswas never simply a business decision – it was an opportunity to invest insomething that means so much to local people.
"My family and Ihave celebrated many special occasions at Itihaas over the years, so weunderstand just how cherished it is. We're incredibly proud to be part of itsfuture and are committed to ensuring Birmingham continues to enjoy Itihaas atits very best."
Executive Chef Gaurav Dayal said:"Every great restaurant has a story, and Itihaas is one of Birmingham'sfinest. Our role isn't to rewrite that story, but to build on it with care, passion and respect.
